I have deep interest on reverse engineering and now I have thought to know the contents of a binary file. And I have asked myself, is there a tool that could help me to identify the contents of a given binary file? When I say contents of the file, I mean using what tool is this binary file created? And what patterns does the binary file have?

I am happy to hear anything on the topic of binary analysis as my aim is to have deep knowledge on that area.

Thanks in advance!

What you're describing is static analysis and there are many tools for this task. Some of my favorites include CFF Explorer, PEExplorer, and IDA Pro. There is also the more recent PEBear which looks quite promising as well.

These tools are good for executable files and we know the structure of executable files. But my intention is to know the structure of any binary file which we do not have any clue about its file structure. My intention is not only reading binary file as I can read using hex-editors like 010 editor. Are there tools that would help to identify the file structure of given binary? What methodologies would I follow to analyze the binary file?

Note: The binary file is not known file structure though it could be after being analyzed.
